Cornhole for Heroes Brings Community Together in Support of Veterans and First Responders

There are some events that feel bigger than the competition itself.

Our recent Cornhole for Heroes fundraiser at the Adair County Fairgrounds was one of those days.

What started as a community event quickly became a reminder of what can happen when people come together around a mission that matters. From the teams competing in the tournament, to the businesses and individuals who donated auction items, to everyone who showed up simply to support the cause, the day was filled with encouragement, generosity, and genuine connection.

Most importantly, the event helped support the ongoing work of Canine Miracles for Heroes and our mission to provide highly trained service dogs to veterans and first responders living with PTSD and trauma.

Why Events Like This Matter

Training a service dog takes far more than basic obedience work.

It requires time, consistency, real-world exposure, equipment, transportation, veterinary care, and countless hours of hands-on training. Our dogs are trained in environments that reflect everyday life, including stores, parking lots, sidewalks, and other public spaces where distractions and unpredictability are constant.

Every event like Cornhole for Heroes helps make that work possible.

The funds raised directly support:

  • Service dog training sessions

  • Training equipment and supplies

  • Veterinary care and dog support needs

  • Real-world public training opportunities

  • Continued growth of our programs

For many veterans and first responders, everyday situations can feel overwhelming. A properly trained service dog can help restore confidence, independence, and a sense of calm in those moments.

That’s why this mission matters.

More Than a Fundraiser

One of the best parts of the event was seeing the community rally around the mission in such a meaningful way.

Throughout the day, people asked questions about the dogs, learned more about the training process, shared personal stories, and connected with others who believe in supporting those who have served and protected our communities.

Those conversations matter just as much as the fundraising itself.

Awareness leads to understanding. Understanding leads to support. And support helps us continue reaching more heroes who need it.
